I have provided this page as a place to mention books that have been of great use to me in the development of this work. (I will be adding links and movies soon)

Books by Dr Shen Hongxun

These are not published yet but an be obtained through the Buqi institute or in the USA through the IIT

Spontaneous movement for health and healing

A description of the Taijiwuxigong self-healing system. In my opinion this is the clearest description of how to activate the dantien open the meridians and develop safely in an internal practice. Contains exercises and theory. Best to use this in conjunction with attending class taught by a qualified Taijiwuxigong teacher.

 Buqi, Chinese healing and self-healing

A description of the Buqi healing system. Dr Shen has been treating patients using “forces” or “Qi” for over forty years. The systems he presents here are the distillation of his clinical experience. In my opinion the clearest book written on the topic of energy healing. Only available to those taking the training course.

Taiji 37--The 37 mother postures of Taijiquan.

I have never met anyone who comes close to having Dr Shen’s ability as a Taijiquan practitioner. This book opens the door to those who want to see inside an art form that has almost been lost. Only available to those taking the training course.

Books by Moshe Feldenkrais

Awareness through movement

If you want an introduction to the work this is the best place to start.

The Potent Self

A study of potency and compulsion, A must for all those interested in this work. Edited much later than it was written, so much of his original ideas have remained intact.

The Elusive Obvious

Some of the most profound things are obvious yet we fail to see them.  Sometimes it takes a mind of great clarity to write about these things.  A good read.

Case of Nora

A fabulous case study that acts as a shining example of how to approach anyone who is asking for help.

Body and Mature Behavior

A study of anxiety, sex gravitation and learning. Due to the fact it was published 1949 it suffered from editing by the mind set of that time. However it clearly points to genius of this mans work and it is interesting to see how well it has stood the test of time.

 The Master Moves

Feldenkrais mainly taught in the Bay area, California and Tel Aviv, Israel. This is a book containing transcriptions of some classes.

Books on Bodywork

Ida Rolf Talks, Ida Rolf.

Short read, interesting ideas.

 Rolfing, Ida Rolf

The definitive book on Rolfing, whether this was what Ida Rolf did is another question. However the ideas presented here are profound and useful for anyone who works with the body.

Shiatsu/Shin Tai, Saul Goodman

Saul Goodman was one of the people who put Shiatsu on the map. Being a talented practitioner he went on to explore far beyond the confines of that system. The emerging work he calls Shin Tai. This book provides useful practical techniques and hints at the fact that there is something much deeper to be seen here.

Chinese philosophy

The Book of Changes and The Unchanging Truth, Hua Ching Ni

There are so many books on the I-Ching.   This work is exceptional as it explains the roots of Chinese philosophy from his own practice. Starting from the concept of Yin and Yang, he derives the I-Ching, stems and braches (a predicative system), and shows how they are all rooted in the same understanding. You could spend a lot of time with this book.

The Foundations of Chinese Medicine, Maciocia

This is the definitive text on Acupuncture, clearly explained and well laid out.

Buddhism

Heartwood of the Bodhi tree, Ajan Buddha Dasa

An enlightened mind sees only the path to liberation. It does not deviate into speculation and conjecture. This is a rare chance to read a book by such a mind. Not one word is out of place. It drives the mind straight to heart of the subject.  If you allow the words to impact you, this book can be life altering.

A Still Forest Pool, Achaan Chah

Achaan Chah was a companion and friend of Buddha Dasa. If we say that Buddha Dasa perfectly explained the path, Achaan Chah beautifully demonstrated the qualities of the heart of an enlightened person. It will make you laugh and maybe shed a tear. Very Sweet.

The Crystal and The Way of Light, Namkhai Norbu

Namkhai Norbu is my person favorite Tibetan Buddhist teacher. This book clearly examines the spiritual path from the view point of Dzogchen, as well as giving some personal stories. He is a profound living master with a beautiful presence.

Anatomy, Physiology, Neurology

The Physiology of The Joints, Kapandji Vol 1 – 3

If you want to understand how bones, joints, breath and muscles work then take a look at these three volumes. They contain the essentials and are full of clear diagrams and precise explanations.

The Man Who Tasted Shapes, Richard Cytowic

Written in the style of a detective novel Cytowic describes his work with people in the field of Synesthesia. The result is a new model for how the brain works and how we are not creatures governed by logic and cortical functioning but are deeply influenced by the limbic brain and its priorities.

Color Atlas of Anatomy, Rohen,Yokochi, Lutjen-Drecoll

Not for the squeamish as this is a photographic study of the human body. This contains hundreds of photographs of human dissection, CT scans and diagrams. Even if you are not interested in anatomy this book will entrance you with the beauty and complexity that exists within each one of us. If you don’t want to buy it flip through it’s pages at the book store, it is a thing of beauty.

The Thinking Body, Mable Todd

Originally published in 1937 this is a classic in the study of human physiology and the effect of psychological and mental processes on human movement. Todd was far ahead of her time.

Body movement

A Light on Yoga, B. S. Iynegar

A Light on Pranayama, B.S. Iynegar

Everything you every wanted to know about Yoga but were afraid to ask. Iynegar beaks down every posture and every breath describing it in great detail. When people write books like this on Yoga they define the playing field so clearly that it is difficult to think of what else to write on the subject.
